If you’ve ever wondered whether God truly loves you — or whether He cares about your struggles — look to the cross.
At the cross, Jesus Christ reveals the heart of God. He gave His life for you. And for me. That, friends, is hope worth having.
But there’s a question that troubles many people:
If God is loving, how could He allow a place like hell?
Does God send people to hell?
In this article, we’re going to answer that question directly from the Bible — specifically from Revelation 14 and Revelation 20 — and share why the cross changes everything.
What Revelation Teaches About Judgment and Eternal Destiny
The book of Revelation is often misunderstood as a confusing list of symbols. But when studied carefully — verse by verse — it reveals real truths about God’s justice, human choice, and the reality of eternity.
In Revelation 14:8–11, we see a solemn warning:
“And another angel followed, saying, ‘Babylon is fallen…’
Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice,
‘If anyone worships the beast and his image
…he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God…
He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone…’”
And then later, in Revelation 20:15, we read:
“Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
This sounds sobering — and it is. But Scripture does not present judgment apart from God’s offer of mercy.
1) God’s Love Is Fully Consistent With God’s Justice
Some people struggle with the idea of hell because they believe it contradicts God’s love.
But Scripture shows that God’s love and God’s justice are perfectly harmonized.
In Romans 5:8, we read:
“But God commends His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, God’s love reaches out to you. At the cross, Jesus experienced the punishment you deserve so that you wouldn’t have to.
God’s love does not cancel out justice — but Jesus satisfies justice on our behalf. That’s why the cross is the heart of the Christian message.
2) The Greater Wonder: How a Holy God Lets Sinners Into Heaven
Many ask: If God is loving, why wouldn’t everyone be saved?
But Scripture presses a deeper question:
How can a holy God admit sinful people into heaven?
The truth is that none of us earn heaven by good behavior, church attendance, or moral effort. The Bible says:
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
(Romans 3:23)
Our righteousness is like “filthy rags” — not good enough to stand before a holy God. Yet God didn’t leave us in our sin.
At the cross:
- Jesus became our substitute
- Jesus took our punishment
- Jesus paid the debt we could never pay
And through faith in Him, God offers forgiveness and eternal life — not because we are worthy, but because His mercy is greater than our sin.
3) Does God Send People to Hell? The Bible Shows It’s a Choice
Here’s the heart of what the Bible teaches:
God does not send people to hell — people choose it.
Scripture presents two paths:
- The narrow way — life through faith in Jesus Christ
- The broad way — the world apart from Christ
Jesus said there are only two ways to live — and only one leads to life everlasting.
When someone rejects God’s gift of salvation, they choose separation from Him. Because God respects human freedom, He allows that choice — even though He does not desire it.
As one Bible scholar put it:
“God does not determine this destiny for people — they freely choose it for themselves.”
God reveals the consequences of that choice. He doesn’t force salvation on anyone.
Why the Cross Is the Central Answer
If you want to understand God’s heart, start at the cross.
At Calvary, we see:
- God’s love
- God’s justice
- God’s mercy
- God’s invitation
God’s love doesn’t ignore sin — God deals with it at the cross so that you don’t have to face it alone.
And He doesn’t want anyone to be separated from Him forever.
The Bible says:
“He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
(2 Peter 3:9)
What You Should Do With This Today
The Bible doesn’t leave you wondering what to do next.
God has made a way:
- Acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of a Savior
- Believe that Jesus died and rose again for your salvation
- Call on the name of the Lord and surrender your life to Him
Jesus promises:
“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
(Romans 10:13)
If you’ve never made that decision — today can be your moment.
This is not about religion — it’s about a relationship with Jesus Christ.
