Hello, this is Pastor Mike Sanders and I want to welcome you to the Hope Worth Having radio program all the way from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. I serve as the senior pastor of the Open Door Church, and we are excited to be able to share God's word with you today. We're going to be in Isaiah chapter six. That's a classic chapter and one that a lot of Christians are familiar with. But let's begin to dig into it and learn about the wholeness of worship. I want you to take your Bible this morning to Isaiah chapter six, Isaiah chapter six. We've been tracking through the book of Isaiah, and when we look at chapters one through five, we can see that as kind of a prologue of the book as a whole, meaning that in these first five chapters that we've already covered, there have been some great themes that Isaiah has brought to our attention that he'll continue to bring to our attention through all 66 chapters. We come to chapter six and we have an account of Isaiah's initial prophetic commissioning, meaning that... > Discover what Isaiah 5 teaches about God’s grace, the danger of misplaced priorities, and finding a new beginning through Jesus Christ. - Published: 2026-08-17 - Modified: 2026-07-22 - URL: https://hopeworthhaving.com/what-more-could-god-do-for-you/ - Categories: Blog God blesses us in more ways than we often recognize. He gives us life, health, family, friendships, opportunities, provision, and the beauty of creation. He gives us His Word to guide us, His grace to sustain us, and His Son to save us. Yet it is still possible to receive these blessings without responding with gratitude, worship, or obedience. Isaiah chapter 5 presents a sobering question: What more could God do for you? Through the image of a vineyard, the prophet Isaiah shows how generously God had blessed His people. He had cared for them, protected them, and given them every opportunity to produce spiritual fruit. Instead, they turned away from Him and allowed greed, pride, pleasure, and sin to control their lives. Isaiah 5 challenges us to examine our own hearts. Are we using God’s blessings to glorify Him, or are we receiving His grace in vain? What Does It Mean to Receive God’s Grace in Vain? In 2 Corinthians 6:1, the Apostle Paul warns believers not to receive the grace of God in vain. Grace is God showing goodness to people who do not deserve it. It is God reaching down to rescue sinners, sustain believers, and provide blessings that none of us could earn. There is saving grace, which brings us into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. There is also sustaining grace, serving grace, and what theologians often call common grace. Common grace includes the blessings God makes available throughout the world, such as: Sunshine... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on What More Could God do for You Part 2. The future feels uncertain. The world seems more divided. Plans change without warning. Problems come into our lives that we never expected. In those moments, it is natural to wonder: Is God really in control? Isaiah 4 gives us a powerful reason to answer yes. Isaiah looked at a nation facing judgment, spiritual decline, and uncertainty. Yet God gave him a vision that reached beyond the trouble of the moment. There was still hope. God had not abandoned His plan. He had not surrendered His authority. He was still working toward a future where Jesus Christ would receive glory and reign as King. The same God remains in control today. Is God in Control When the World Feels Chaotic? Yes. The Bible teaches that God remains sovereign even when the world around us feels unstable. Isaiah lived during complicated times. God's people had wandered from Him, and the consequences of their rebellion were becoming clear. Yet Isaiah continued pointing people toward the future. Why? Because present trouble does not cancel God's promises. We often judge God's faithfulness by what we can see today. If life is going well, we assume God is working. If circumstances become difficult, we wonder where He is. But God does not lose control when life becomes hard. He remains God in the valley and on the mountaintop. What Does "In That Day" Mean in Isaiah 4? Isaiah 4 begins by looking toward a future day. "In that day... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on God is in Control Part 2. Leadership feels uncertain. Moral standards continue to shift. Families, communities, and nations seem to be facing more confusion than ever before. But Isaiah chapter 3 reminds us that instability is not new. God’s people in Judah were facing a similar moment. They had turned away from the Lord, trusted in human strength, and ignored God’s truth. As a result, the nation began to lose the very things it had depended on. Isaiah’s message is serious, but it is also filled with hope. Even when the world feels unstable, God remains faithful. Even when judgment comes, God is still working for His glory and calling people back to Himself. Judah Had Turned Away From God Isaiah chapter 3 shows us a nation that had rejected the Lord. Instead of trusting God, Judah trusted in military strength, political power, wealth, and human leadership. But when people turn away from God, the things they depend on eventually begin to fail. God said He would remove the nation’s support system. Their leaders would be taken away. Their resources would be shaken. Their sense of security would collapse. This was not random. It was the judgment of God. God was showing Judah that true stability cannot be found in people, possessions, power, or politics. True stability is found in Him alone. A stable job, a growing family, financial progress, and meaningful opportunities can all be gifts from God. But success also carries a danger we do not always recognize. It can fill our hands while leaving our hearts empty. In Isaiah 2, God’s people had wealth, strength, resources, and influence. From the outside, they looked prosperous. But spiritually, they were drifting. They had become full of things, but empty of God. That warning still matters today. Can Success Pull Your Heart Away from God? Yes, it can. Success often brings comfort, and comfort can make us forget our need for the Lord. When life is hard, we tend to pray more, seek God more, and depend on Him more deeply. But when life gets easier, it becomes tempting to rely on what we have instead of who God is. That is the danger of success. The blessing is not the problem. The problem begins when the blessing takes the place of the Blesser. What Are You Filling Your Life With? Isaiah describes people whose lives were full of silver, gold, horses, chariots, and idols. Today, our lives may be full of different things: Busy schedules Career goals Entertainment Sports Social media Financial plans Personal comfort Again, these things may not be wrong by themselves. But they become dangerous when they crowd out time with God, obedience to God, and worship of God. A full calendar does not always mean a full heart. True faith moves. It obeys. It trusts God when the road ahead is unclear. That is what we see in Hebrews 11 through the life of Moses. His story reminds us that faith is not passive—it shows up in choices, courage, and obedience. And the same is true for us today. How Do You Live by Faith When Life Is Hard? Faith becomes most visible in difficult moments. It is easy to talk about trusting God when life feels steady. But when pressure comes, when decisions are costly, and when the future feels uncertain, faith must become action. Moses’ parents showed that kind of faith. They trusted God even when Pharaoh’s command put their family at risk. Their courage shaped Moses’ life and showed him what it meant to obey God above all else. Why Do Your Choices Matter? Every decision matters more than we realize. Small choices of obedience prepare the heart for larger moments of testing. When you choose God in ordinary moments, you strengthen your faith for extraordinary challenges. Moses eventually had to make a defining choice. He could enjoy the comfort and status of Egypt, or he could identify with the people of God. He chose God. That is faith in action. What Are You Willing to Give Up to Follow God? Following God sometimes means walking away from what the world values. Moses gave up power, comfort, wealth, and position because he saw something greater. We see conflict in the world, instability in nations, and confusion in culture. It can be easy to wonder where everything is headed. But Isaiah 2 reminds us of a powerful truth: God already knows the future, and His kingdom will prevail. The world may feel unsettled, but God’s plan is not. His promises are sure, His timeline is certain, and His kingdom cannot be shaken. Why Can Believers Have Hope About the Future? Our hope is not rooted in politics, world leaders, or human progress. Our hope is rooted in the Word of God. Isaiah’s message was not wishful thinking. It was a promise from the Lord. What God says will happen, will happen. People may break promises. Plans may change. Nations may rise and fall. But God remains faithful. What Are the “Latter Days” in the Bible? Isaiah speaks about the “latter days,” pointing to God’s future plan for the world. This reminds us that history is not random. God is moving all things according to His purpose. Even when events feel confusing, God is not surprised. He is sovereign, active, and working toward the fulfillment of His promises. That means believers do not have to live in fear. We can live with confidence. What Is the Kingdom of God? Isaiah describes the “mountain of the Lord” being established above all other mountains. This points to the kingdom of God rising above every earthly kingdom. Welcome to the Hope Worth Having Radio Broadcast, and we are broadcasting from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and delighted to have you along with us. We're gonna be in Isaiah chapter 2 today, a very intriguing and interesting passage of scripture, and we'll be talking about the future. So join me as we study together. When we come to Isaiah chapter 2 in verses 1 through 5 this morning, we're reminded that God tells us about the future. But what is so great is that even though man may have aspirations of trying to create his own future, God has a plan for a future that supersedes all the plans of mankind and are better than mankind. Most of us live our lives with an eye on the future. It would be foolish for us to live our lives regardless of what we know about the future. As we understand the future, it gives us more hope for the future. And God has revealed the future with absolute certainty, and we should plan our... > What does true worship look like? It is possible to attend church, sing the words, listen to the message, and still have a heart that feels distant from God. That is exactly what Isaiah 1 warns us about. God’s people were still going through the motions of worship, but their hearts were not aligned with Him. They had religion, but they lacked repentance. They had rituals, but they lacked sincerity. So the question is not just, “Do I worship? ” The better question is: “Is my worship real? ” Can Worship Become Empty? Yes, worship can become empty when it becomes routine without relationship. In Isaiah 1, God’s people continued offering sacrifices and attending religious gatherings, but God was not pleased. Why? Because their actions did not match their hearts. They honored God outwardly, but they were not living in obedience. Empty worship happens when we: Go through the motions Say the right words Keep religious habits But resist God’s work in our hearts God does not want performance. He wants sincerity. What Does God Want from Our Worship? God wants worship that flows from a surrendered heart. True worship is not limited to what happens in a church service. It shows up in how we live, how we treat people, how we respond to conviction, and how willing we are to obey God’s Word. Worship is not just something we do. It is who we are before God. They may still have religion, tradition, and outward success, but their hearts have moved away from the Lord. That is the warning we see in Isaiah 1. God’s people had been blessed, protected, and cared for, yet they rebelled against Him. They still went through religious motions, but their lives no longer reflected a close relationship with God. Isaiah’s message is not only about a nation. It also asks each of us to look honestly at our own hearts. What Does Isaiah 1 Teach About Spiritual Drift? Spiritual drift happens when God slowly becomes less central in our lives. It may begin with small decisions: Less time in prayer Less hunger for God’s Word More dependence on self More desire to please the world Over time, those small choices create distance between us and God. Isaiah shows us that spiritual drift is serious because it changes how we think, how we live, and how we respond to God. Can You Believe in God but Live Like He Doesn’t Matter? Yes, and that is one of the dangers Isaiah confronts. God’s people still had religious activity, but their hearts were far from Him. They knew the language of faith, but they were not living under the authority of God. That same danger exists today. A person can say they believe in God, attend church occasionally, and know the right words, yet still live day to day as if God has... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on A Sin Sick Nation Part 2. Success. Independence. Recognition. Security. Balance. And while some of those things may have value, they don’t answer the deeper question: What does your soul actually need? When we turn to Scripture, especially Proverbs 31, we don’t just find a list of expectations—we find a picture of a life rooted in something far more meaningful. A life grounded in God. Why Do So Many Women Feel Unfulfilled? Have you ever felt like you’re doing everything you’re supposed to do... but something still feels missing? That feeling is more common than people admit. You can: Care for your family Work hard every day Show up for others And still feel like something isn’t quite right. That’s because fulfillment doesn’t come from doing more—it comes from being rooted in the right place. And Scripture points us back to one source: Your relationship with God. What Makes a Woman Truly Valuable? The world measures value by what people see. God measures value by what He sees. In Proverbs, we’re reminded that a woman of character is more valuable than anything money can buy. Not because of what she owns—but because of who she is. Her value comes from: A heart aligned with God A life shaped by truth A spirit marked by grace That kind of value never fades. What Does It Mean to Live with Grace? Even in strong Christian relationships, there will be moments when people hurt you, misunderstand you, or simply see things differently. When that happens, it’s easy to pull away, shut down, or walk away entirely. But God calls us to something better. The book of Philemon reminds us that disagreements don’t have to destroy relationships—they can lead to restored relationships through grace and forgiveness. So how do you handle conflict in a biblical way? Why Are Restored Relationships Important in the Christian Life? Many people try to live their faith independently. We convince ourselves: “I can follow God on my own. ” “I don’t need church or community. ” “Relationships just complicate things. ” But Scripture teaches the opposite. God created us for fellowship. We are connected as believers, called to grow together, support one another, and walk through life side by side. When we disconnect from others, we don’t just lose relationships—we miss what God wants to do in us through those relationships. Faith grows best in community. What Should You Do When Someone Hurts You? At some point, you will be hurt. Someone will say the wrong thing. Someone will disappoint you. Someone may even deeply wound you. In that moment, you have a choice. You can: Hold onto the hurt Walk away from the relationship Build emotional walls Or... You can choose grace. Through the book of Philemon, we are reminded that restored relationships don’t happen by accident—they happen through forgiveness fueled by prayer. And if you’ve ever felt stuck in your ability to forgive, this truth matters more than ever: Prayer is the key God gives you to move forward. When Forgiveness Feels Impossible Let’s be honest—forgiveness is hard. It doesn’t come naturally. The world tells us to protect ourselves, cut people off, or get even. But God calls us to something deeper. He calls us to forgive. Not because it’s easy. Not because others deserve it. But because it reflects the heart of Christ. The story of Philemon reminds us of this. Onesimus had wronged Philemon and ran away. From a human perspective, that relationship was over. But God stepped in. Onesimus encountered Christ. His life changed. And now Paul writes to Philemon, encouraging him to receive Onesimus back—not just as someone who failed, but as someone transformed by grace. That kind of restoration doesn’t happen without God. The Empty Tomb: Hope Begins Here When the women came to the tomb early that Sunday morning, they expected to find the body of Jesus. Instead, they found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. They found no body—because Jesus was no longer there. This moment changes everything. The tomb was known. The stone was sealed. Guards stood watch. Yet when the women arrived, they found the stone already moved, and Jesus was gone. God did not roll the stone away to let Jesus out—He rolled it away so we could see that He is risen. We know we should forgive. We have heard sermons about it. We have read verses about it. But when the wound is deep and the hurt feels personal, forgiveness can feel almost impossible. So why should we forgive when it is hard? In the book of Philemon, the apostle Paul gives us powerful insight into the motives behind true forgiveness. This short New Testament letter reveals that forgiveness is not rooted in emotion, but in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Real-Life Conflict Behind the Letter Philemon was a believer whose home hosted a church. Onesimus, a slave belonging to Philemon, ran away and appears to have stolen money or property in the process. That betrayal created a real debt and a real fracture in their relationship. Through God’s providence, Onesimus met the apostle Paul while Paul was in prison for preaching the gospel. There, Onesimus repented, trusted Christ, and began growing as a follower of Jesus. But repentance meant more than words. It meant returning to Philemon and making things right. Paul writes to Philemon urging him to forgive Onesimus. This was not just about settling a private disagreement. The unity and testimony of the church were at stake. Forgiveness would either strengthen the body of Christ or weaken it. From this letter, we see three powerful motives for forgiving others. 1. It is Jesus who stood in for us. It is Jesus who took our place. People disappoint one another. We experience betrayal. Sometimes the wounds run deep and forgiveness feels impossible. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t waste our pain. Even in our hurts, even in the disappointments, God is at work — shaping our hearts, redeeming what was meant for harm, and leading us into a life of greater freedom and love. That truth comes alive when we study the book of Philemon, a short New Testament letter packed with powerful principles of forgiveness. A Story of Brokenness, Grace, and Reconciliation Philemon was a Christian man whose servant, Onesimus, ran away. In the process, Onesimus took something that didn’t belong to him. Philemon had every reason to be angry, hurt, or to close his heart. But God intervened. Onesimus encountered the Apostle Paul, came to faith in Christ, and was transformed. Paul wrote to Philemon with a simple but profound message: receive Onesimus back — not as a servant — but as a brother in Christ. From this story, we see forgiveness as more than a nice idea — it’s a step-by-step pathway given by God so we can live in freedom, not bondage. Step 1: Reception — Opening Your Heart Again Paul didn’t command Philemon to forgive. Instead, he appealed to him. Why? Because forgiveness rooted in love lasts. God does not force our hearts — He invites them. True forgiveness begins when we choose to receive someone again, not... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on The Characteristics of a The Steps of Forgiveness Part 2. If you’ve ever wondered why you should forgive someone who has hurt you deeply, the answer isn’t in self-help motivation — it’s at the foot of the cross. Jesus didn’t just teach forgiveness — He modeled it. And when we struggle to forgive others, we are invited to remember first how much God has forgiven us. In this message, we explore one of the most practical and life-shaping teachings on forgiveness found in Scripture — the book of Philemon. Though it’s only one chapter long, this powerful letter from the Apostle Paul reveals the heart of forgiveness and the Christian character needed to be a forgiving person. Why the Book of Philemon Is So Relevant Philemon is a short, personal letter in the New Testament written by Paul. The story behind it gives us a real-world picture of forgiveness: Philemon was a respected Christian leader whose home church met in his house. Onesimus, a man who had run away from Philemon, encountered Paul while Paul was imprisoned. Paul not only led Onesimus to Christ — he then sent him back to Philemon, urging Philemon to receive him not as a servant, but as a brother in Christ. This isn’t just a lesson in etiquette — it’s a radical call to restore broken relationships through forgiveness. The Heart of Christian Forgiveness At the core of forgiveness is the gospel. Christ forgave us, not because we deserved it, but because of His... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on The Characteristics of a Forgiving Person Part 1. He will be reading out of Philemon 1:1-7. But there’s a question that troubles many people:If God is loving, how could He allow a place like hell? Does God send people to hell? In this article, we’re going to answer that question directly from the Bible — specifically from Revelation 14 and Revelation 20 — and share why the cross changes everything. What Revelation Teaches About Judgment and Eternal Destiny The book of Revelation is often misunderstood as a confusing list of symbols. But when studied carefully — verse by verse — it reveals real truths about God’s justice, human choice, and the reality of eternity. In Revelation 14:8–11, we see a solemn warning: “And another angel followed, saying, ‘Babylon is fallen... ’Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice,‘If anyone worships the beast and his image... he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God... He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone... ’” And then later, in Revelation 20:15, we read: “Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. ” This sounds sobering — and it is. They'll just say there's no way that the love of God is compatible with there being a place of hell for those who do not believe in Jesus Christ. It’s a question shaped by hope, fueled by love, and often stirred by the longing to see those we’ve lost once again. Scripture doesn’t leave us guessing. God gives us clear insight into what awaits those who belong to Him—and the promise is far greater than we can imagine. A Hope Rooted in Resurrection The foundation of our hope begins with Jesus Christ. His resurrection was not symbolic or spiritual alone—it was physical, real, and victorious. When Jesus rose from the grave, He forever changed what resurrection means for every believer. The apostle Paul makes this clear in 1 Corinthians 15, where he explains that Christ’s resurrection is the pattern for our own. Just as Jesus rose in a glorified body, so will all who place their faith in Him. This truth anchors our confidence. Christianity does not offer wishful thinking—it offers resurrection power. What Happens When a Believer Dies? When a believer passes from this life, their soul and spirit immediately enter the presence of the Lord. Scripture tells us plainly, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. ” But that is not the end of the story. One day, God will reunite soul, spirit, and body in a glorious resurrection. This body will not resemble the fragile, aging one we know now. It will be transformed—perfected for eternity. At Hope Worth Having, we believe the whole counsel of God’s Word matters. That includes heaven—and hell. Satan’s Defeat Is Certain The Bible makes it clear that Satan’s power is temporary. Revelation 20 reveals his final defeat, where he is cast into the lake of fire forever. He does not win. Evil does not prevail. Jesus Christ is victorious. That truth gives believers confidence. Even in a world filled with chaos, confusion, and opposition, Christians can live with hope because we know the end of the story. Christ has already conquered sin and death, and one day all rebellion will be brought to justice. Understanding Hell in Scripture The Bible describes both a temporary place of judgment and a final, eternal destination for those who reject Christ. Before final judgment, unbelievers are in what Scripture calls Hades, Sheol, or Gehenna—a place of conscious separation from God. Believers, however, are immediately in the presence of the Lord. Enjoy God’s Presence Forever Heaven means being in the unfettered presence of God. While God is with believers now by His Spirit, eternity brings a fullness beyond anything we can imagine. Scripture says God will dwell with His people (Revelation 21), and in His presence there is “fullness of joy... pleasures forevermore. ” Heaven will be the ultimate worship experience — no distractions, no sin, no sorrow — just pure communion with God. 2. Find Rest from Earthly Burdens Heaven brings true rest — not inactivity, but deliverance from suffering, pain, grief, spiritual battles, and the burdens of this world. Revelation 14:13 promises rest for the believer. Heaven isn’t “sitting on a cloud and doing nothing,” but rather a relief from all the heaviness and hardship we endure now. It’s the finish line where struggles end and joy begins. 3. Receive Glorified Bodies Designed for Eternal Life Heaven isn’t a disembodied spirit experience. God will give believers new, glorified bodies (Philippians 3:21). These aren’t weak, temporary shells — they’re perfected bodies made for eternal life: living without weakness, pain, or decay. That means heaven will allow full participation — in worship, fellowship, service — in a perfect, renewed life. 4. No one else can redeem our souls—only Jesus Christ, who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me. ” As we approach Christmas, it’s worth asking one of life’s most profound questions:Who is He in yonder stall, at whose feet the shepherds fall? Who is this child whose birth split history in two? The answer is far more than a seasonal story—it determines our eternal destiny. The Virgin Birth Reveals the Divinity of Jesus Matthew 1:18–25 records a miracle that forever changed the world. Mary, though betrothed to Joseph, conceived a child through the Holy Spirit. It was an event no one could have imagined, and yet it fulfilled every prophecy pointing to the coming of the Messiah. “Before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. ” — Matthew 1:18 This wasn’t a symbolic miracle—it was literal. The angel told Mary that the child she carried would be called “the Son of God. ” In Hebrew understanding, that phrase didn’t just signify a relationship—it described the very nature and essence of God Himself. The virgin birth is proof of the incarnation: Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is the eternal Creator who stepped into creation. They believe their good deeds will outweigh their mistakes on some kind of cosmic scale. But Scripture makes it clear—God doesn’t grade on a curve. Entrance into heaven isn’t earned through effort or morality. It depends entirely on one question: Do you have faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? What the Bible Teaches About Hell In Matthew 25:41–46, Jesus offered a sobering description of eternal separation from God: “Depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels... And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. ” Jesus talked about hell more often than He did about heaven—not to instill fear, but out of love and mercy. His warnings were invitations to repentance and salvation. Hell is not a metaphor. The Bible describes it as a place of unending fire, isolation, and darkness—a place absent of God’s love and peace. Those who reject Christ are choosing to live apart from Him, both now and forever. Why Hell Exists According to Scripture, hell was prepared for the devil and his angels—not for people. God created all beings, both angelic and human, with the freedom to choose. Lucifer, once a magnificent creation, rebelled against God and was cast out of heaven. That rebellion is what hell was made for. But when people reject God’s offer of forgiveness through Jesus, they... > Build your life on what lasts. Each choice we make, each act of service, each prayer, each word — it all adds to something we’re building before God. Scripture reminds us that one day, everything we’ve built will be tested, and only what was done for Christ will endure. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3 that believers are “God’s building. ” Christ Himself is the foundation, and what we build on that foundation determines the strength and value of our spiritual life. It’s a reminder that faith isn’t a casual project — it’s a lifelong construction that demands care, integrity, and purpose. Christ: The Only Solid Foundation A house built on shifting sand won’t last long, and neither will a life built on temporary things. Success, relationships, and possessions can all crumble when life’s storms come. But those who build on Jesus Christ — His truth, His grace, and His salvation — will stand firm through every trial. Faith begins when we stop trusting in our own strength and recognize our need for a Savior. It’s not about religious activity or moral effort; it’s about surrendering fully to Christ and letting Him become the cornerstone of everything we are. The Materials That Tell Our Story Paul described two kinds of spiritual “building materials”: gold, silver, and precious stones — or wood, hay, and straw. Both can look impressive at first glance, but only one set survives the fire. Every believer’s work will be tested. But what about when the plans fall apart, when people fail us, or when faith feels like work? In Pastor Mike Sanders’ message, “Be Thankful Anyway,” we’re reminded that real thankfulness isn’t tied to our circumstances—it’s anchored in God’s grace and His unchanging faithfulness. In 1 Corinthians 1:4–9, the Apostle Paul shows us how to live with gratitude that lasts through both the highs and lows of life. 1. Grace That Cannot Be Lost Many Christians wrestle with the fear of losing their salvation. But Pastor Mike reminds us that salvation is not a reward for perfect behavior—it’s a gift secured by Jesus Christ Himself. Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. ” God doesn’t revoke His promises when we stumble. Grace is not a loan we must repay—it’s a covenant sealed by the blood of Christ. Even when our faith wavers, God’s grace holds steady. That’s why we can give thanks—not because we are flawless, but because His forgiveness is. 2. Thankful for the Gifts God Gives Paul told the Corinthians that they were “enriched in everything by Him. ” (1 Corinthians 1:5) Every believer receives spiritual gifts—abilities given by God to strengthen the church and reach others. Whether you serve through encouragement, teaching, compassion, or prayer, your gifts are meant to be used. Pastor Mike challenges us to step forward and make ourselves available to serve. Salvation is by faith in Christ alone, and rejection of Him is what leads to judgment. In a recent Hope Worth Having message, Pastor Mike Sanders of The Open Door Church explored a sobering yet essential question: Will there be degrees of punishment in hell? The Bible gives a clear answer—and it may surprise you. 1. Hell Is Real, and God’s Judgment Is Righteous In Luke 10, Jesus warned entire cities that refused to believe in Him: “It will be more tolerable for Sodom than for that city” (Luke 10:12). His words remind us that hell is a real place and that judgment is not the same for every person. The Gospel of Luke is often called the Gospel of repentance. From John the Baptist to Jesus Himself, we hear the call to turn away from sin and turn toward faith in Christ. The reality of hell shows us that God’s judgment is both just and merciful—He gives everyone the opportunity to repent and be saved. 2. What Revelation 20 Teaches A great white throne is set, and all the dead—both great and small—stand before God to be judged. “Books” are opened, including the Book of Life. Those whose names are not found in it are cast into the lake of fire. Death and Hades (or Hell) themselves are thrown into the lake of fire—this is called “the second death. ” Through Christ, believers are spared this judgment. Our sins are forgiven because Jesus took our penalty on the cross. Words the Bible Uses for Hell To understand hell fully, it helps to know some of the words Scripture uses: Sheol (Hebrew) – in the Old Testament, this word often refers to the realm of the dead; sometimes simply "the grave," other times the place of the unrighteous awaiting final judgment. Hades (Greek) – similar to Sheol, this is a present reality for the dead who have rejected God, awaiting their final fate. Gehenna – described by Jesus as a place of fire and torment. It was a literal valley of waste outside Jerusalem where garbage was burned; He used it to illustrate the seriousness of eternal separation from God. Hello, this is Pastor Mike Sanders from the Open Door Church. We welcome you to the Hope Worth Having radio broadcast. We're excited to be able to minister God's Word to you today. We're going to be in Revelation chapter 20. Whenever we talk about the book of Revelation, immediately people's minds go to prophecy. Certainly, that's right, but today we're going to be talking about what does the Bible mean when it speaks of hell. Here's a message that you might not hear a lot, but it is a message that is straightforward on the subject and the topic of hell. If you have your Bible this morning, I want you to join me in the book of Revelation. We're continuing our study that we began a few weeks ago about five questions about heaven and five questions about hell, but today I want to address this question about hell. What will heaven be like? Where exactly is it? And what does the Bible really say about it? In his Hope Worth Having podcast series, Pastor Mike Sanders guides us through 2 Corinthians 12 and other Scriptures to bring clarity and comfort. Hearing what Paul experienced—theinexpressible vision of the “third heaven”—helps us understand that while our words fall short, God’s Word doesn’t. Unlike many modern books or testimonies, Paul’s vision wasn’t about fame or profit—he wanted to be faithful and truthful. That’s why our greatest source for understanding heaven is the Scriptures themselves. Let’s explore six truths from God’s Word that will strengthen your hope: 1. Heaven Is Where God Dwells Jesus began teaching us to pray, “Our Father, who is in heaven... ” throughout the Bible, heaven is described as God’s throne room—where His presence is uniquely manifest. God reigns from heaven, hears our prayers, and is worshiped there. Though He is everywhere, heaven is His special dwelling place. 2. Heaven Is Where Angels Dwell Jesus tells us that even the angels of children always behold the face of the Father in heaven (Matthew 18:10). These heavenly messengers brought word of Jesus’ birth, His resurrection, and they minister to believers today. Angels serve God’s purposes—but they are servants, not objects of worship. 3. Jesus Ascended—and Will Return from Heaven After His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9–11). He now intercedes for us at the Father’s right... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on What Does the Bible Mean When it Speaks on Heaven Part 2. He will be reading out of 2nd Corinthians 12:2-4. A lot of people have questions about heaven, and they want to know what that means, and we want to learn more about what the Bible teaches about heaven. So let's get into this study and take advantage of it. Heaven is like a utopia. It is a beautiful place. It is a place where there is no sin, and there is no sorrow. This place, the third heaven, referred to as paradise in our texts, the apostle says is inexpressible. It's very hard for us to articulate and describe all that the apostle saw when God took him to the third heaven, and he saw things, and he heard things that... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on What Does the Bible Mean When it Speaks on Heaven Part 1. Disappointments, detours, and trials often appear at the most inconvenient moments. Yet as followers of Christ, we find hope in the truth that—no matter how confusing or chaotic things seem—God’s providence remains at work, even when we can’t see it. One of the clearest examples of this truth unfolds in Acts 28. The apostle Paul had planned to travel to Rome as a free man, continuing his gospel work. Instead, he arrived shipwrecked and imprisoned on the island of Malta. That journey was not what Paul expected—but it was exactly what God had ordained. If you’re navigating a season of struggle, you’re not alone. Here are seven biblical ways you can actively serve, lead, and share the Gospel amidst your challenges—and how Hope Worth Having can walk alongside you through every storm. 1. Trust God’s Hidden Plan Paul’s detour to Rome wasn’t a setback—it was God’s strategic redirect that would shape history. Likewise, our hardships may conceal a deeper purpose we can’t yet see. Romans 8:28 reminds us: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him... ” Even in our pain, we can trust that God is writing a greater story. Practical application: Pause in prayer to ask, “Lord, what are you doing in this moment? ” Keep a journal of spiritual “detours” that later revealed deeper vows of faith. Surround yourself with trusted believers who point you toward God’s bigger picture. 2. Let... > Pastor Mike will be speaking on God's Providence and Our Assignment Part 2. A sudden phone call changes everything. A doctor’s report shakes the ground beneath us. Financial burdens keep us awake at night. Conflict, loss, or loneliness press in when we least anticipate it. Troubles, big and small, are woven into the human story. But as believers, we are not left without guidance. The Bible speaks honestly about trials, offering not only comfort but also direction. One of the clearest pictures comes from Acts 27, where the apostle Paul endured a violent storm at sea. Despite chains and chaos, Paul became a voice of stability, reminding everyone on the ship to trust in God’s promises. At Hope Worth Having, Pastor Mike Sanders often reminds us that storms are not signs of abandonment but invitations to deeper dependence on God. When trouble comes—and it will—we can anchor ourselves in Scripture and lean on unshakable truths that carry us through. Here are seven biblical principles for navigating life’s storms with faith, courage, and hope. 1. Draw Closer to God in the Midst of the Storm Our first instinct in trouble is often to pull back. We get distracted, discouraged, or even angry. Prayer becomes harder, Bible study feels distant, and God seems silent. Yet Scripture calls us to do the opposite. James 4:8 urges, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. ” When Paul faced storms—both literal and figurative—he consistently leaned into God’s presence. In the pages of this book, Holland shares with you the illness of her son, Paul, the challenges of the long-term care that had to be provided for him, and the battles she personally fought with depression and anxiety. You will also experience how soon after burying their son, they, as a pastor's family, had to deal with their son-in-law's physical illness and subsequent addiction. However, you will see how God continued to show His goodness to this family and how God's grace continues to be sufficient for them today. As you read this book, you will also learn that God's grace is sufficient for you, too-no matter what you are going through. > This Bible published in the largest font size available in the New King James Version with extra-large print type allows for a clear and easy Bible reading experience. Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognized authorities in their own fields. Strobel challenges them with questions like: How reliable is the New Testament? Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible? Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event? Strobel's tough, point-blank questions make this Gold Medallion-winning book read like a captivating, fast-paced novel. But it's not fiction. It's a riveting quest for the truth about history's most compelling figure. What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ? > God is always at work! He moves in ways we do not comprehend. He moves in ways we do not comprehend. In the ancient Biblical story of Esther a most intriguing and fascinating narrative unfolds. A Jewish queen in a Persian empire and a wicked Persian king set the stage for one of the most challenging stories in ancient literature. The theme of this historical book usually surrounds Esther but the more this writer investigates the book there is a greater purpose. God is always at work even when we do not know it. God's name is not mentioned in the book. Yet His presence and leadership is all through the book. When you and I face difficult challenges in life we may sense that God is not working and perhaps we wonder if he even cares. The story of Esther is one of the most comforting of Biblical books as the reader begins to sense the unique work of God. God not only cares but he is orchestrating events behind the scene. I pray that on finishing this volume readers will love and admire the God of Scripture in a new way. Often studies on Esther major on the characters. From the arrogant king to the magnificent queen there is intrigue and mystery. One person is unnamed. He is orchestrating the entire episode. He is the Almighty God. > The Bible Reading Experience: Reimagined The new Tyndale classic KJV Large Print Thinline Reference Bible, Filament-Enabled Edition has readable text, an attractive layout, and cross-references in a thin, easy-to-carry size. This devotion guide is designed especially for your use during your walk with Christ. The subjects for each week include devotions on faith, hope, love, generosity, and thanksgiving. I am convinced that your journey of faith will be a time of incredible spiritual growth. When we begin to pray, give, and sacrifice, we grow. These devotions are an important part of that opportunity for maturity in each of our lives. We want God's word to be at the center of our faith and prayer. We want God's direction to be the single motivation for our gifts and sacrifices. These devotions will help you, as an individual or as a family, to personally discover God's direction in His Word. It is our desire for God's Word to be at the center of our relationship with Christ. I am delighted to highly recommend to you the book, Dynamic Devotions, by my dear personal friend Mike Sanders. The Open Door Church of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania has a history of solid Bible teaching. Mike continues that standard with in-depth truth from Gods Word to feed the flock of God. Week after week, from this historic pulpit, he proclaims the riches of the Bible. In his time of study and reflection Pastor Sanders has developed a walk with God and the pages of this devotional book reflect his approach of living dynamically for Jesus Christ. Each devotional presents truth that has been prayed... > Join Hope Worth Having and Beacon of Truth Ministries as we send Bibles to countries that need God’s Word.
